Weekend Baking

I’m so glad I installed my air conditioner this weekend because Boston has been hot, hot, hot with temps around 90F.  Other than brainstorming new ways to keep cool, I was busy in my kitchen...

I was craving something citrus-y, other than mango/tangerine sorbet by Double Rainbow that I am completely addicted to!  I came across this recipe (via TasteSpotting) for lemon squares.  Although I'd never made them before, it was pretty simple (hardest part is juicing so many lemons).  They have just the right amount of sweet and tart in them.  Added bonus: your hands smell like fresh lemons for the rest of the day!

"Shooting Tourists"

This duo I spotted on my lunch break at Faneuil Hall reminds me of this collection by Alan Powdrill called "Shooting Tourists":
Oh I hope I don't look so silly when I'm wandering around snapping photos :)  Tourists really are an interesting subject...  And how about those people that take photos of absolutely everything!  Just imagine the torture their friends and family endure when they return with thousands of photos to share.  It really is kind of funny.  And the matching tracksuits?  Can't leave home without them!
P.S. Did you see Color Me Katie's post on Improv Everywhere's Tourist Lane?  Brillant!

Something to Remember

I know this isn't new or original, maybe you've already seen this before...but it's something I want to remember.  It's part 3 of a 4 part series on storytelling by Ira Glass, and I like his advice.

Quebec tries to (literally) distance itself from Canada

There was a 5.0 earthquake in Canada today, how random!  I'm not sure if I felt it, but I definitely asked a coworker this afternoon if they were doing more construction on the sidewalk outside... maybe this is what it was.  More news on the quake at CNN and Boston.com.

Weekend Wedding

Mark and I went to a friend's wedding in Stowe, Massachusetts (about 40 minutes outside of Boston) this past weekend.  You are not going to believe this, but... it's the first wedding I've ever attended!  I thought it was fun to pick out their gift and get all dressed up, but I can also see the novelty wearing off if I had to attend one after another, after another, etc.  My friend Chris Bennett was the photographer, along with David Wright.  Such a fun party!
P.S. I added the feather clip I made to my hair as a last minute fix for growing bangs... but I kind of like it!

Go Celtics!

At a playoff game in Atlanta, 2008
Tonight is Game 7 of the NBA Finals (Lakers vs Celtics), and although I'm not a huge basketball fan, I am definitely a Celtics fan.  Last time they won the Finals, the windows of my office were smashed by crazy people celebrating in the streets outside the Garden.  Playoff games are so fun because there is such a great energy in the room and everyone is on their feet cheering.  Ahhh! 5 minutes left... who will win??

Color Inspiration

This video by the Let's Colour Project makes me happy.  It looks really cool to see a community come together to paint the dingy, grey walls in their neighborhood to bring them to life.  Check out their recent photos on Flickr, too.
They actually remind me of another blogger, Color Me Katie from Brooklyn, New York.  She's always doing some random, crafty project like adding though bubbles above people passing on sidewalks, or making new decorations for her apartment.

On the Road

Hello!  A quick apology for the radio silence.  I've been on the road and will return again shortly with fun stories and photos to share.

World Cup Fever

MasterCard, Adidas, and ESPN couldn't compare - this ad & anthem gets me sooo excited for watching the World Cup!  Just 3 days until kickoff - who will you be cheering for?  I'm partial to the Swiss (being half-Swiss myself) :)

Last time I saw the Cape Town Stadium, it was still a work in progress.  I'm looking forward to seeing more of South Africa via the games over the next few weeks, and fingers crossed everything goes well while the whole world is watching!

New Toy

I came home to a surprise last Saturday, a package of color film waiting casually on my doorstep.  The next day, there was another package, but this time, a roll of black & white film.  The day after that (well, you can guess) I came home to yet another, even bigger, package... and I'm now the proud owner of a beautiful Diana F+!  I can't wait to get my first roll of film developed.  The best packages are always surprise packages  :) Thanks, Boyfriend!
P.S. - Keeping with my photography theme, I also found these fun, handprinted Holga illustrated place mats on Papernstitch.
