The Strandloper Ocean Boutique Hotel | Paternoster, South Africa

It was incredibly easy to slip into vacation-mode upon arrival at the Strandloper Ocean Boutique Hotel. I was encouraged to stay and relax in the common living area with fresh canapés and cool drinks before there was any discussion of a room. From the outset, it was the incredibly attentive staff whom went above and beyond to ensure I had a rejuvinating stay.

THE ACCOMMODATION

The cool tones of the whitewashed buildings are balanced perfectly with the bright bursts of magenta bougainvillea on the property. The entire property is incredibly light, airy and tranquil - it felt like walking around a spa.

With only 14 rooms, it almost feels like you have the whole place to yourself. I stayed in a Nature King Suite which had a nice view overlooking the scrubby fynbos surrounding the property.

The bathroom featured a rain shower, separate toilet room and deep soaking tub. I came back to my room one evening to find candles had been lit and lavender scented bath salts with rose petals had been placed at the tub.

The room's private patio was the perfect perch from which to watch the sunrise the next morning with my Nespresso coffee.

My only regret was not staying in the even more decadent Ocean Suite, which features a terrace facing the Atlantic Ocean.

Dine

The Leeto Restaurant serves an English breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Because the property faces the Atlantic, you'll want to be sure to spend at least one evening sipping a cool glass of South African Chenin Blanc from the hotel's balcony overlooking the ocean at sunset.

There are several restaurants and bars within driving (and bicycle) distance of the hotel in the center of Paternoster. Two of my favorites are The Noisy Oyster and Gaaitjie. A drink at the Panty Bar is also a recommended (and memorable) experience.

Do

The best part about staying at the Strandloper is having direct access to a beautiful, flat sandy beach.

There is a small lap pool is near the entrance of the property.

Bicycles are available for guest use.

There is also a spa on the premisis.

If you want to experience Paternoster like a local, be sure to book an evening seafood braai on the beach for at least one of your nights at the Strandloper.

Perfect For

Singles and couples seeking complete relaxation, a small town to explore, and a beach to lay out on.

Location

Paternoster is a small fishing village on the west coast of South Africa, approx. 1.5 hours from Cape Town. The hotel is located on the outskirts of the village, so if it's peace and solitude you're after, you can find it here. Apart from the shops in town, nearby West Coast National Park and the !Khwa ttu San Cultural Center are popular attractions.

I was welcomed to Strandloper Ocean Boutique Hotel as their guest. My opinion is, as always, my own.
